Hofex 2011

When Chef Brando told us about the Hofex 2011, I got so excited. Hofex is Asia's leading food and hospitality trade show that occurs biennially in Hongkong. This year's Hofex will be on May 11-15 at Hongkong Convention Center.

I got so excited because we, the students, can join the GCHA team who will compete there. This conference/competition/exhibit/trade show is a good exposure for the culinarians. We're going to learn a lot from there.

Chef Brando had attended the Hofex 2007 and won a bronze medal in a competition. He will be competing again this year along with other Chef instructors and some students of Global Academy.

So I already asked my father for his consent in joining the GCHA team because the school needs the confirmation on Monday and luckily he, my loving father, said yes. Eeee! ♥

So far, I'm joining my school's team on May going to HK for a week, more probably May 9-15. Yehey!!! ♥ I hope everything goes smoothly and no commotion will happen.

E-X-C-I-T-E-D! :) If ever, it will be my first time in Hongkong and it will also be my first time to travel without my parents. Aaaa! I'm really looking forward to this trip. :)

Catch up

Hello, hello! Been on MIA again due to, well as always, school stuff and laziness. Haha! My guilty pleasure slash relaxation time all through out was watching movies and tv series like Gossip Girl, Glee and Pretty Little Liars. May it be at home via DVD or dl-ed stuff or in a movie house. I have watched a couple this past few days..

DISCLAIMER: All the photos were copied from Google. ☺

I have seen half of the movie on Star Movies then I realized I haven't watch this one yet in my entire life so I decided to download it and watch. I'm kinda moved with the story but not really moved with tears, affected and all. I'm just moved period. Maybe I expected some more because I was really really really touched by Meg Ryan's City of Angels and I actually don't wanna compare this with one of my favorite movie, My Best Friend's Wedding because they have different story line though they both tackle about being friends and love. I can say this is already a classic one thus a must watch for hopeless romantic people like me. :)

It is not a secret that I'm currently taking up Culinary Arts in Global Culinary and Hospitality Academy so when Mommy Rose, a classmate of mine, told me about Catherine Zeta-Jones' 2009 movie about cooking and love and that she's portraying as an Executive Chef and Aaron Eckhart as her Sous Chef, I got excited and said I'm gonna download and watch it too. It's an okay movie for me. That's all I can say. :)

This is a true to life story about Julie Powell and Julia Child about what cooking has done in their life. I really love this movie, I have already marked this as one of my favorites. Really. Seriously. I even searched for Julie's blog and I found it! Yehey! Here. And I'm now planning to buy the book. I hope to get it soon! :) I'm not gonna get tired of watching this, it inspires the hell out of me. And I found it cute that I understand the French terms used, I got kilig every time. This is definitely a must watch movie for people who are passionate about cooking. ♥

This is the cutest movie ever! And I really think, this is a must watch for those who want to cook. The movie says, "ANYONE CAN COOK." That is really inspiring and the movie defined the meaning of that. ♥

I watched this last night and I actually liked the story. Not the best story ever but it's nice! :)

Out of all the movies here in this blog post, this is the only movie I have watch in the movie house. I must say every penny spent is extremely worth it!!! Adam Sandler is a genius! Jennifer Aniston is so great! I laughed and I was touched. I think it's Adam Sandler's thing to make you laugh and make you fall in love in a movie. I LOVE IT!!! ♥

1st Food Review =)

I have been eating in different restaurants and fastfoods for as long as I can remember. I make it a point to discover and try new establishments. It's nice to be knowledgeable of good eats especially to the industry I am pursuing.

These are the ones I tried in the last couple of weeks:

Syoti's in Timog = Good eat!
Affordable & Yummy at the same time. :)
Beef w/ Broccoli

Carver's in Araneta = Bad eat!
Affordable but not yummy and the service isn't good. I'm not gonna repeat the mistake I've done, definitely.
IDK.
Their rice isn't even hot when served! For goodness' sake!!! :/

Jay-J's in Timog = Good eat!
Afforadable and very delicious!!! I keep coming back! Need I say more? Haha
Kare-Kare & Crispy Pata ♥

Red Crab in Gateway = Good eat!
Good service, good place, good food. I expected more but I still have to try their other foods. :)
Carbonara (I didn't remember I asked for extra oil. Haha)

Yey in Timog = Good eat!
Delicious, good service and cozy place.
Marinara & Mango Juice

Ha Yuan in Timog = Good eat!
Affordable and delicious though their service isn't fast enough, I'm coming back!
IDK.
Shark's Fin Siomai

Beef Wanton and Soya Milk ♥
This is my first ever food review. I didn't actually describe their food critically. I might do that on to my next food review. :)

Cheesecakes

I actually have a thing for cheesecakes. I don't know but I think, I'm in love with cheesecakes! Haha. Seriously, I find it yummy and perfect for dessert because it isn't so sweet compared to other cakes. Right? :p

Oreo Cheesecake

Almond Cheesecake

I don't have a photo of my ever favorite Blueberry Cheesecake. But it's my first choice in cheesecakes' flavor. :)

Sessionista

I really love ASAP Sessionista! That is why I really insisted in watching and I never stopped persuading my parents until they give in and bought tickets. Haha! I specifically idolizes Richard Poon |my love|, Aiza Seguerra, Juris and Nina. So the show is really perfect and a must watch for me. To think I really watch them on ASAP every Sunday to see Richard and hear all of them sing. Actually, each of them were brilliant singers! It is just that the mentioned names were my favorites.

They sang plenty of songs. I was out of count. They sang new songs, old ones, slow, upbeat, foreign songs and opm. Excellent performances!!! I was left amazed and in awe everytime and especially with Richard. I am really into him. I love how he carry a tune. Biased. Haha! The concert lasted for 2 and a half hours and every penny is worth it!

Rocker chic. Haha!

Love and Other Drugs

I really wanted to watch LAOD from the very beginning I saw the poster of the movie. But then time constraints occurs. So finally last Wednesday |February 2, 2011|, Jaja, my cousin, treated me for some viewing. Jaja, Ressa |another cousin of mine|, Ate and myself all watched it! YEHEY! =p

Before viewing the movie, we ate somewhere. I do not want to mention the name of where we ate because the food is NOT delicious in any way. I swear! Money wasted. Ugh!

I liked the movie! Actually no, I loved it! The first part of the movie was kinda okay but for me the ending was THE best! I am a hopeless romantic type of person, maybe that is why I love love love the ending. Hehe. And could I just add that Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhal were both sizzling HOT?! Haha!

Jatujak

A day after my class last Monday, January 31, 2011, Ate and I met up at The Block to watch a movie specifically Love & Other Drugs but unfortunately the next time of showing was too late for us to watch that one so we decided to just eat early dinner and go home.

We ate at Jatujak, a small Thai restaurant in The Block. Ate and I love to eat somewhere we have not yet tried dining..

Thai Milk Tea
I LOVE Thai Milk Tea. Super! My favorite is Tea Tarik. We stayed in Brunei Darussalam for quite some time that's where we had first tasted it.

Sample Appetizer
Uhm, hello geek Alyssa! Haha
Paad Thai Mixed
Sisters!
Chicken Sate
Peach, Mango & Lychee FroYo! I missed California Berry!

I love Jatujak! SARAP!

Symphony of Flavors

Last 2011 January 29 (Saturday), Bungols, my older sister's set of friends and I, had dinner in Little Asia Promenade. The dinner was actually a post-Christmas/New Year celebration. They had been all busy that's why the dinner had been scheduled super late. :)) There had been a joke that it was also a Chinese New Year/Pre-Valentine's dinner rolled into one. Haha!

Little Asia's paper mat :)

Fried rice. CARBS ALERT! CARBS ALERT! :D

Chicken, obviously! :p

Calamari baby. :p

Tilapia-yum! ♥

Extra oily Beef Stew! :))

(L-R) CARLO, NINS, MYSELF, JIGGY :)
INCOMPLETE BUNGOLS.
Though the dinner was already set a month before, there were some friends who didn't came. SAYANG! It's always fun to be with them. I always end up laughing hard with their jokes and funny stories. I hope next time, everyone's present. The more, the merrier! :)

M.I.A.

I haven't been able to blog for quite some time due to schedule constraints. And well, laziness too. I have been pretty busy in my school, there's just so many things to learn and study. A lot of times, after school, I would not check my sites. So I only have been updating my twitter.

I haven't updated my blog for more than 2 weeks, and for that span of time we have been lectured in school about Soups, Pastas & Grains. Lecture, demo, application of demo, quiz about the lecture plus written, oral and practical exams. That's how my more than 2 weeks had been. Whew! :)

The photos here were taken by myself and the output had been the work of Chef Brando Santos during our demo class.

Roasted Squash Puree

Shrimp Bisque

Consomme

Spaghetti Aglio Olio

Ravioli Stuffed with Mushroom With Alfredo Sauce (This was my personal favorite of all! Super YUM! But SO hard to do. Very time consuming.)

Fettucine With Tomato Sauce (The fettucine was freshly made from a dough. That's part of the lecture & demo.)

I have not been able to take a picture of the grains because my phone is lowbatt that time. I can't take the risk of using the extra power it has. :p But the lecture and demo was Risotto alla Parmigana, Paella, Basic Fried Rice and Rice Pilaf. I was super full after the demo, rice party! :))
